We are Web Architects

I didn't realize this but after reading an article on architecture the other day I realized that it applied quite directly to me and my business at WebSpark. We do more than simply design great websites. We create a plan of attack, walk through the entire process from start to finish, and put contingencies in place to ensure success. Our goal is much deeper than designing a website for distribution.

Much like architects do we draw up plans for how a site should function, the methods it should use for interaction with its visitors, and how to make the overarching experience one of enjoyment for the end-user. We lay all this out before beginning work, then we methodically complete each piece to ensure a successful project at the end.

Web designers are a dime a dozen. I can't tell you the number of times I've hear the line, "oh, you do web design....so does my (insert-favorite-relation-here)!". It seems everyone now-days is a web designer or has one in the family. It wasn't until recently that I discovered that what I do is much, much different.

At WebSpark we are Web Architects. We build the structure and architecture of the web. And we make it look good while we're doing it.

Ideas to Improve the Workplace

I recently ran across an article by Seth Godin. He shares something that he recommends doing every morning in the office. As a small business owner myself I was glad to read it because it's something that we do in my office every day.

He says sit around and 'check in'. Now he's approaching the story from a the standpoint that he wants people to express their fears. I approach it from a slightly different angle, I simply want to promote the feeling of family and unity in the office. By sharing a little bit each morning about either what you have done, what you plan to do, or what is going on in your life you allow your co-workers a little insight into your life.

Most of your co-workers already share much more intimate details with the rest of the world through Facebook or Twitter. So why not share a little about yourself with the people that you are spending the majority of your time with. You never know what you'll learn or how it might influence how you treat someone that day.
